Important Notice
Read the following before attempting any upgrade:
  • Perform the upgrade at your OWN RISK as any upgrade will void your warranty and forfeit any support from the manyfacturer(s).
  • We DO NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY when something goes wrong during the upgrade.
  • The upgrade is intended for EXPERT USERS only who know what they are doing.
  • Only perform the upgrade when it is absolutely necessary, for example to use the CD-Writer with incompatible burning software programs.
  • Before performing the upgrade turn off and exit ALL CD-related programs which may interfere with the upgrade (especially packet-writing software like Adaptec DirectCD or Ahead InCD).
  • Always power off the computer to perform a COLD BOOT. Then turn on the computer and test if the upgrade was successful.
Upgrade a Philips CDRW400 Series to a Yamaha CRW4416S/E

Philips CDRW400/PCA450RW (SCSI) to Yamaha CRW4416S Upgrade
  • Create two temporary directories:
    • C:\TEMP\PHILIPS
    • C:\TEMP\YAMAHA
  • Extract the PHV10F.ZIP archive to the C:\TEMP\PHILIPS directory.
  • Delete/Rename the C:\TEMP\PHILIPS\PH2S9127.BIN firmware file.
  • Copy the S1610F.EXE archive to a the   C:\TEMP\YAMAHA directory.
  • Execute it so it extracts the files in the C:\TEMP\YAMAHA directory.
  • Rename the C:\TEMP\YAMAHA\SCA99127.BIN file to PH2S9127.BIN and copy it to the C:\TEMP\PHILIPS directory.
  • Startup PH2SUP.EXE to update the firmware (read UPGRADE.DOC):

    PH2SUP PH2S9127.BIN <SCSI ID: 0-6> <SCSI Adapter ID: 0-3>
Philips CDRW400/PCA460RW (IDE) to Yamaha CRW4416E Upgrade
  • Create two temporary directories:
    • C:\TEMP\PHILIPS
    • C:\TEMP\YAMAHA
  • Extract the PHV10F.ZIP archive to the C:\TEMP\PHILIPS directory.
  • Delete/Rename the C:\TEMP\PHILIPS\PH2A9127.BIN firmware file.
  • Copy the A1610F.EXE archive to a the   C:\TEMP\YAMAHA directory.
  • Execute it so it extracts the files in the C:\TEMP\YAMAHA directory.
  • Rename the C:\TEMP\YAMAHA\ATA99127.BIN file to PH2A9127.BIN and copy it to the C:\TEMP\PHILIPS directory.
  • Startup PH2AUP.EXE to update the firmware (read UPGRADE.DOC):

    PH2AUP PH2A9127.BIN <Target ID: m/s> <Bus: p/s>
NOTE: These upgrades doesn't change anything to the read/write speed of the drive but it makes it more compatible with the CD-Writer software which doesn't recognize it as being a CD-Writer! And firmware updates are much faster available from Yamaha then from Philips!
