Philips CDRW200 & CDRW400 |
It has been confirmed that Philips
recent CD-Writers are not made by IMS anymore but they are OEMed from Yamaha
and JVC. IMS has stopped developing CD-Writers and that seems to be the main reason Philips is looking elsewhere for their CD-Writers: The Philips CDRW200 has the JVC XR-W2080
drive inside (2x (Re)Write and 24x Read).
The Philips CDRW400 has the Yamaha CRW4416E
drive inside (4x (Re)Write and 16x Read). |

Black CD Media at CD-Recordable.com |
CD-Recordable.com is selling all black 80 minutes "GameStation" CD-R media which looks very much like the original Sony Playstation CDs. We have been trying to get samples of these "GameStation" CD-Rs to europe but it seems that they are not that willing to send overseas. If you have a "spare" laying around we are very interested in getting one! |

Recognizing the BASF/Emtec CD-R's |
From Martin Schmidt we received a e-mail explaining how the BASF/EMTEC Magnetics CD-R's can easilty be recognized: In the lower right corner, right next to the bar-code there is a vertical number (5 chars) and a code (1 or 2 chars). This code reflects from which factory the CD-R actually is: |

Protected Audio CD from Herman Brood - A fluke! |
Planet Internet |
The used CD protection used on the Herman Brood CD (Back on the Corner) is exactly what we thought it would be. They just enabled the SCMC-code (serial copy management system) which makes it impossible to make a copy of this CD on the Philips Audio CD-Recorder but it can very easily be copied on ANY "normal" CD-Writer... |

BASF now using Taiyo Yuden |
BASF/EMTEC Magnetics is now also using CD-R's manufactured by Taiyo Yuden - Thanks Hananja from Opus Supplies BV. These are the two types:
- BASF CD-R74 Multi Speed
- BASF CD-R74 Ceram Guard
Keep in mind that BASF/EMTEC Magnetics was selling bad quality CD-R media manufacturered by Ritek, so make sure which you are getting before buying them! |
Imation also going for Kodak Gold |
Imation
is now also using CD-R's manufactured by Kodak - Thanks jeSse. Again a manufacturer which uses the same cover for a different kind of CD, only the back-cover has some different Black & Yellow colors... very confusing again! |

Protected Audio CD from Herman Brood |
Yesterday the latest CD from Herman Brood was released, not that interesting you might think (and you are right) but this is the first CD which is protected against copying. The funny thing about it is that the title of the CD is roughly translated: Not Copyable
We don't have any additional info yet how exacly the protection is implemented or if it can be copied on a "normal" CD-Writer but we'll keep you up to date. Comments are welcome! |
