www.iomegadirect.com
ROY, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug.
16, 1999--Iomega Corporation, a leader in smart, portable storage
solutions, today announced shipment of its first CD-Rewritable
(CD-RW) drive, the ZipCD(TM) drive.
Available soon through retailers,
resellers and Iomega's direct sales site, www.iomegadirect.com,
the ZipCD drive gives users a new storage capacity to back-up,
archive, transport, share and create up to 650MB of data on a
common CD format.
"With an estimated 12 million
CD-RW drives being shipped this year, this format continues to be
a high-growth market segment," said Wolfgang Schlichting,
research manager, removable storage research, International Data
Corporation. "Iomega's expertise in removable storage and its
brand equity makes its ZipCD drive a formidable competitor."
Iomega's ZipCD drives and discs
bring the ease and convenience expected of Iomega products to the
historically technical CD-RW market. The internal ZipCD drive
features an animated installation tour to help customers install
their new ZipCD drive. Separately shipped ZipCD discs include a
pre-formatted CD-RW disc with the potential to spare users up to
90 minutes of formatting time.
Iomega brings ease-of-use to
customers by also bundling a wide array of software tools and
accessories with the ZipCD drive. Adaptec® DirectCD(TM) - Packet
writing software enabling a "drag and drop" functionality
-- Adaptec® Easy CD Creator(TM) -
CD record/copy software
- Avery® Media Software - Iomega
special edition to format CD labels and jewel case inserts
- Iomega® QuikSync - Software
that creates a simultaneous back-up copy of active files
within user designated folders
- Adobe® PhotoShop® Limited
Edition - Software for digital image enhancement, photo
retouching and image compositing
Iomega now offers customers a
complete suite of storage products to meet their preferences. For
example, customers can pre-master and create content on their Zip®,
Jaz® and/or Clik!(TM) drives, and then transfer the information
to a ZipCD disc for archiving, distribution and compatibility.
"With ZipCD drives and discs,
we continue our commitment to provide our customers with
affordable, easy-to-use storage solutions for their important
information," said David Gantt, vice president and general
manager of Iomega optical products. "The combination of the
ZipCD drive's animated installation tour and its superior software
bundle plus the separately shipped, pre-formatted CD-RW discs make
it easier than ever for customers to make their own CDs."
The Internal E-IDE 4x4x24 ZipCD
drive is available at an estimated street price (ESP) of $209
(U.S.). Pre-formatted ZipCD Premium CD-RW discs, designed to save
users valuable time, are available in packs of three at an ESP of
$19.99 (U.S.). ZipCD Combo CD-RW discs are also available with one
pre-formatted disc and two unformatted discs at an ESP of $12.99
(U.S.).
