    How to Detect : SecuROM (v1.x -v3.x):

    One of the following files should exist in the installed directory or in the root of the original CD:

    • CMS16.DLL, CMS_95.DLL or CMS_NT.DLL.

    The protection can also be recognized by the following picture which is printed on the inside ring of the CD:

    dadc[1].gif (841 bytes)

    DADC is a CD manufacturing plant, the more recent SecuROM protected games are also pressed in other plants.

    Open the main executable, using a HexEditor and search for the following ASCII text (it should appear twice): CMS

    SecuROM PA (Product Activation):

    The following file should exist in the installed directory or in the root of the original CD:

    • PAUL.DLL

    For SecuROM New and up use Protection ID or ClonyXXL
    Backup Solution : Currently there are 3 ways available of dealing with this protection:
    • 1:1 CD-Copy
      CloneCD is able to copy this CD protection as long as the CD-Reader/Writer supports reading & writing RAW & Sub-Channel Data.
    • Resident (Generic) Patches
      DAEMON Tools fully supports this CD Protection, if not use the Generic SecuROM Patches:
      • SecuROM R1:  Use Generic SecuROM R2
      • SecuROM R2:  Use Generic SecuROM R3
      • SecuROM R3:  Use Generic SecuROM R4 v1.1
      • SecuROM R4:  Use Generic SecuROM R5 v5.1
      • SecuROM R5:  Use Generic SecuROM R5 v6.0
    • Use a "Fixed Executable" available @ GameCopyWorld

    SecuROM is a patented CD-ROM copy protection technology that identifies a ‘genuine’ CD-ROM by a special authentication mechanism. During Sony DADC’s mastering process an electronic fingerprint is applied onto the glass master which assigns a unique number to each CD-ROM title.

    The most recent version also detects if it is being run from a CD-R media (V-Rally 2), to solve this just use a CD-ROM, instead of a CD-Writer, to play the game from.

    The latest SecuROM New revision includes "Trigger Functions" which allow the developer to program multiple and fully customizable authentication checks throughout the entire application, providing what is said to be a much stronger copy control than systems with only one check at program start. The Trigger Function toolset enables the publisher/developer to customize a unique security code for each title to prevent even title-specific cracks and Internet piracy.
