Laserlock Marathon offers protection against bit-to-bit copying programs, using a patented signature on the outer edge of the CD and enhanced anti-debugging and encryption techniques, which are similar to the StarForce protection. The physical signature is made during the glass-mastering process. The basic principle is again used of a protected/encrypted main executable which checks the authentication ring for being a valid/original CD. Just before this authentication ring read errors are being generated so the backup/imaging process is stalled or is fooled to try to read the same information/sector over and over again. Skipping the bad sectors means skipping the authentication ring and thus creating an invalid backup.
Also, the new version of LaserLock offers protection that is non-generic as each protection package is characterised by a unique locking parameter that is specified during the LaserLocking procedure and provides complete protection against illegal re-mastering and reproduction. |
