- Ritek’s 32x CD-R media entering volume production in October
Though 32x CD-RW burners have not entered into volume production yet, CD-R manufacturers are already rolling out 32x speed discs. But since 16x speed is the mainstream of the CD-RW market, initial production capacity will not be large. Ritek also added that 24x CD-R discs have lower compatibility with low-speed CD-RW burners. CloneAudioProtector (CAP) is a CD tool which is able to protect audio CDs. CloneCD 2.x/3.x is used to create a CD-Image which is then modified using CAP. It is compatible with Win9x, WinME, Win2K & WinXP and comes in 4 selectable languages (English, Italian, German & Spanish).
Two types of protections (separate or combined) can be used to protect the CD:
- SYS Protection
- Cactus Data Shield
The 2 protections can be added to the CD at 30, 60, 90 or 120 seconds before the end of the CD.

Teac has just released their portable Teac CD-RW280PU CD- ReWriter (Reviewed @ CDRInfo). The drive is based on the previously released Teac CD-W28E but now features an USB 2.0 bus!
Again because of the limited bandwidth of an USB 1.1 port it is only possible to Write/ReWrite @ 4x speed and Read @ 6x speed!

Acer just released their portable MiniRW 8824MM CD-ReWriter which is targetted to laptop users as it incorperated a variety of portable interfaces: USB, FireWire, PCMCIA or both USB & PCMCIA.
When using the USB bus then there is a limitation as it is based on USB 1.1. Therefor it is only possible to Write @ 6x speed and ReWrite @ 4x speed! The FireWire & PCMCIA busses can Write/ReWrite @ 8x speed.
