TOKYO,
June 4 (Reuters) - Japanese electronics manufacturers Hitachi Ltd and Toshiba Corp said on
Friday they would increase production of DVD-ROM drives. Hitachi will boost production of DVD-ROM (digital video disc read-only memory)
drives to 6.5 million units per year in the business year to March 2000 in Japan and
Malaysia, up from three million in 1998/99, it said. The production increase is due to
rising demand in the United States.
Toshiba will increase DVD-ROM drive output to six million
units per year in 1999/00 in Japan and the Philippines, compared with 2.5 million in
1998/99. The company said the increase in output was due to higher demand in Japan and the
United States. |
